Account Manager / Outside Sales

We are currently recruiting for an Account Manager / Outside Sales Representative for Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. 

Candidate should be an opportunistic hunter, have strong technical aptitude with pump or adjacent industrial experience and be able to technically consult / present technical solutions.

  • Monday – Friday days
  • Territory is approximately 2 – 3 hour radius
  • Less than 10% overnight travel  

Job Summary

The Account Manager will grow sales and increase company profits by recruiting new customers and developing current customers in the respective territory for the sale and service of pumps, replacement parts, and accessories.  The AM will be responsible for identifying customer needs, promoting products and company capabilities, and applying products and services, while also providing technical solutions and assistance for customers. In addition, the AM will have overall responsibility for the customer relationship and account service and growth strategies. The AM will work within the policies and procedures of the company and in accordance with company objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Function

  • Participate with management in updating territory plans and setting sales goals.
  • Determine sales potential for new and existing customers through inquiry, observation, and research.
  • Increase overall sales and gross margin in the defined territory by qualifying and securing new opportunities using prospecting and sales techniques within the existing customer base, in addition to acquiring new customers.
  • Travel in the respective territory utilizing time and territory management skills to promote products and services, identify customer needs, and to develop and advance company’s relationship with customers.
  • Identify and understand customer requirements and expectations in order to solve problems and recommend specific solutions.
  • Prepare and conduct sales presentations of products and services to new and existing customers.
  • When necessary, provide timely and accurate proposals with appropriate gross margins and help facilitate the timely delivery of products and services to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Communicate closely with Inside Sales team on customer opportunities, status, proposals, and service levels.  
  • Negotiate and establish pricing and terms according to company’s requirements for customer and transaction profitability.
  • Perform other sales duties as assigned and/or as necessary.

Client relationships and communication

  • Assist customers with special requests and problems (supply information, troubleshoot processes, etc.)
  • Communicate with customers and other team members on any proposal or order changes.
  • Work with vendors on order fulfillment, pricing, and shipping/terms
  • Communicate to inside sales team any unexpected increases or decreases in demand for products for inventory control purposes.
  • Visit client sites to identify opportunities, provide client services, improve relationships, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Practice honesty and integrity in customer and vendor relations
  • Always present a professional image to customers and vendors.

Industry Knowledge and Professional Development

  • Learn and apply technical and new product knowledge to enhance sales and personal development.
  • Maintain technical and computer skills to effectively use relationship management, distribution, vendor, and office software.
  • Remain current on product and industry knowledge by attending sales meetings, vendor training, trade shows, or by reading trade journals.
