Goulds 3298 Feature Details

ETFE Construction for Extreme Corrosion Resistance

ETFE is inert to most chemicals and has good abrasion resistance. ETFE lined casing and containment shell with solid ETFE impeller provide superior corrosion resistance and long life unequalled by alloy pumps. The tensile strength of ETFE can be as much as 38% greater than PTFE, meaning ETFE material can be subjected to harsher operating conditions than its counterpart.

Seal-less Design (Zero Leakage)

The 3298 is a seal-less magnetic drive pump which is environmentally safe, assuring zero leakage on moderate to severe corrosives and hazardous liquids. The 3298 offers users an economical design to meet emission standards or as a solution to pumps with mechanical seal problems.

Simple Operation

The 3298 is as easy to operate as any standard ANSI pump, superior to most other magnetic pumps. Non-metallic construction with no heat build-up in the magnetic coupling makes the 3298 ideally suited for tank transfer, tank type unloading or any batch type service.

Installation/ Pump Replacement Flexibility

The 3298 is available in close-coupled (top image) or frame-mounted (bottom image) designs for true installation or pump replacement flexibility. Since the 3298 meets ANSI dimensional standards, retrofitting mechanically sealed ANSI pumps is easy: simply replace the old pump with the equivalent close-coupled or frame-mounted ANSI size 3298.

Rear Impeller Wear Ring

The impeller is fitted with a carbon-filled TEFLON wear ring as standard (Pure TEFLON optional). The wear ring protects and prevents damage to the impeller and critical areas of the containment shell in the unlikely event of bearing failure. It also controls axial thrust for maximum bearing life.

Enclosed One-Piece Impeller/Magnet Assembly

Enclosed design minimizes axial thrust, extends thrust bearing life. One-piece construction eliminates front shroud failure possible with two-piece impellers. Neodymium iron magnets are completely sealed within impeller assembly.

Goulds SP 3298 Self-Priming Process Pump

The SP 3298 is designed specifically to deliver superior self-priming performance.

No Check Valve

Goulds has eliminated the check valve and the SP 3298 out performs our competition in priming times.  Check valves are commonly used to retain liquid in the casing to assist in priming on successive uses. However, these check valves wear quickly and contribute additional losses on the suction side due to induced drag.

  • The One-piece casing without check valve provides reliable priming in all conditions.
  • Eliminates the additional gooseneck component found on other brands.
  • Retains proper amount of liquid in casing to prime without the use a troublesome check valve.

Volute Insert

Completing the self-priming design, the volute separates the air from the liquid, expels the air through the discharge, and returns the liquid to the suction until all the air is removed and the pump is operating like a standard centrifugal pump.

Parts Interchangeability

All components are fully interchangeable with 3298 and V 3298, except the casing, volute insert, and backplate. This reduces spare parts inventory requirements.

Goulds 3298 Repair Cartridges

With this repair cartridge, it is now easier to inventory the parts that you need to effectively repair a complete 3298 mag-drive pump. When repairs are required, the typical repair requires the “guts” of the pump to be on hand.

As always, our impeller assemblies come standard with the largest magnet possible, encapsulated in pure Carbon Fiber reinforced ETFE. By only having one impeller/inner magnet combination for each size pump, you can reduce your inventory and the possibility of installing incorrect inner magnet sizes.

Simply specify the pump size and the bearing configuration.  The repair cartridge is pre-assembled with the selected material bearings pressed into the impeller and the impeller diameter trimmed as specified.

Did your pump run dry?

Consider adding Dryguard bearings to your next Repair Cartridge.  Dryguard Bearings provide superior protection when temporary run-dry conditions are unavoidable in your pump system. Combined with a PumpSmart PS20, the pump can be set to sense a dry run condition, get through the process condition, and then shut down. An ideal operating system for most tank car unloading applications!
